Tom is a very knowledgeable photographer who has enabled me to make progress and overcome my resistance to Lightroom. He is an excellent teacher – very approachable, patient and encouraging. As an ex teacher trainer, I have been very impressed by his intuitive understanding of the teaching and learning process. He breaks down the subject into small steps, sequencing the learning carefully. As well as a technician and teacher, he is an artist and crucially has helped me understand what makes a good photograph. I now edit my photos with better judgement. Thanks to Tom I have gained in confidence and skill – I cannot recommend him highly enough!

Tom is a fantastic teacher who knows how to explain even the most complex techniques in a way which is very easily understood. He is friendly and has great energy whilst providing a professional service, compact with lots of useful information. Learned a lot about photographing people in our workshop, including how to pose them and what lighting set ups or techniques work best. Tom was also able to answer any questions I had. I couldn’t recommend him enough ! Would definitely do more workshops related to other topics too with him in the future.

Recently I went on a evening walk around London with Tom Chaplin. The workshop was focused around portraiture, a genre of photography I am not so familiar with. I picked up and learnt a lot of new skills to do with using light and composition with Tom’s help. Within no time I was shooting much improved portraits. I highly recommend his photography workshops.

I have attended a few of Tom Chaplin’s workshops and all have been excellent. I have attended a mix go photography walks, image reviews and tutorials on editing and printing. I cannot fault any of these. He is friendly, positive and extremely knowledgable. His teaching manner is very good, everything seems clear, never condescending, and somehow he makes everything easy to remember. I will be attending more of his workshops and tours

My wife, Anthea, and I recently went on a short photo-safari to Uganda organised and led by Tom. In a word, it was terrific. All the arrangements ran smoothly and without a single hitch. The accommodation and transport were excellent. The scenery, wildlife and people in Uganda were, of course, quite wonderful, especially the mountain gorillas. But it would have been much less of an experience without Tom’s expertise and leadership. His technical knowledge is second to none - I cannot recall a single question he could not answer immediately; and his advice on matters of composition revealed a real artist’s eye.
But best of all was Tom’s teaching and leadership style. We were all, from experienced photographers to absolute novice, given advice and encouragement that was timely, unobtrusive and positive. Tom always starts from what’s good about a picture and helps you develop. This was a great experience and we look forward to the next.

“Beyond his technical abilities Tom clearly had an excellent sense for picture composition, use of colour and space, and an aesthetic sense which could be clearly seen in his own work which was of a very high standard, and in his appraisal of the students on the course.

Tom showed a natural talent as an educator. His listening skills were excellent, he was extremely patient and impressed everyone with his perceptive observations of our pictures. His criticism was always constructive and effective.”
